Our Background

The Space Lab is a family owned business. Born from grassroots entrepreneurship, the Space Lab is motivated by establishing human networks and the pulse of healthy business collaboration.

Based in San José, Costa Rica, the Space Lab is an organization that draws its strength from its team members. We work as a collage: drawing from the different personalities and walks of life of our team, we assemble our resources to reach a solution. We believe that our diversity is what brings us together.

The Space Lab was founded in 2005, when Mr. Andrés Calvo, together with his sister Ms. Marianela Calvo, decided to create an organization that could provide web and graphic design services. Their mission was to ultimately work on projects oriented towards sustainable business models. Their efforts led to establishing solid working relationships with Chris Seek, founder and CEO of Solimar International, and Ben Isenberg, CFO and founder of Vantage Strategy Consulting. As the cooperation with these clients grew into fruitful and productive rapport, a friendship was established. The positive results with these partnerships brought more business to the Space Lab, helping it grow considerably in business and workforce.

Then in 2007, after several years working with Nike Inc. in Portland, Mr. Alvaro Jiménez, current GM and uncle to Mr. and Ms. Calvo, joined the project. Mr. Jiménez' experience in developing brand identity and workflow processes were quickly incorporated into the Space Lab’s DNA.

It was at this point that the Space Lab was finally able to position itself as a high-end  boutique agency, providing web development and branding services to small businesses and corporate clients, all over the world.

Since then, the organization has grown organically. We have incorporated new members to our team with new capabilities, as well as created a strong network of allies with which the Space Lab can expand its ability to provide solutions and services even more.

Our Strengths

The Space Lab's team can adapt to work with a company’s marketing team, project managers or developers. The Space Lab can become an internal unit working for a client company alongside its employees. We specialize in creating processes and procedures that are flexible enough to adapt to the different needs of our clients.

The flexibility to use open source, custom, and proprietary technologies allow the Space Lab to supply specific solutions to each client’s needs. We have extensive experience collaborating remotely with clients all over the Americas as well as Europe. The Space Lab’s clients are generally organizations which require the constant creation of marketing materials, branding, web development and graphic design.

We also provide services to individual entrepreneurs and non-profit organizations. In cases where we identify an initiative worthy of our support, we make it our policy to consider the available budget for a project and fit our rate accordingly.
